Recently UFC president Dana White told Sports Illustrated that he is working on a female division of the UFC, largely because of influence Ronda Rousey has been making on the sport.

“It’s absolutely going to happen,” White said Tuesday of the women’s division.

White says no time frame is set for the new division or for Ronda’s transition to UFC, White said, ” it could happen tomorrow, it could happen a year from now.” but regardless of the time frame white simply said “The Point is I’m Committed to this”

The inclusion of women in the sport of MMA’s highest ranks is a complete turn around for the UFC President, who has long rejected the idea of a women’s division, criticizing the quality of fighting and the depth of competition in the female ranks.

Dana told Sports Illustrated that his change in opinion has alot to do with how Ronda Rousey, 25, has beaten each of her nine opponents — three amateur, six professional — with a devastating armbar in the first round. The only opponent, to last longer then one minute with her in the cage to this point has been wrestling specialist Miesha Tate, who was the previous Strikeforce bantamweight title holder.

In the sport of MMA there are always times that try our will.  Whether it after an injury, a particularly hard practice or after a hard loss every one ask’s the question what if I had done things differently.  So with the Heavy Weight Fighters all being pretty tough, the question begs the question what if they had not became fighters.  What if they had chose to play a different sport.  Well wonder no more here is what they would look like.

So, you’ve seen all those boxing movies, and you want to get in on a little of the action? Boxing is one of the most rigorous sports that you will ever do. It’s not for the weak of heart. If you are just starting out, here are the things that you need to know as a beginning boxer.

Find A Gym.

One of the most important things that you can do is to find a gym that will help you as a beginner. If you are able to train with people that are better than you, you will pick up boxing a lot faster than if you learn it alone. Seasoned fighters will probably give you pointers, and you will get better a lot faster.

Get The Right Gear. 

One of the most important things about boxing is that you get the right gear for the sport. Your hands are the things that you need to protect the most, since you will be jabbing and punching things. As a beginner, you need to be even more careful about protect your hands. Wrap your hands and get a good pair of padded gloves. You will be able to last longer when boxing and you will get better. Once you start sparring, get a good mouthpiece and headgear.

Learn your punches.

You might see many fighters that start throwing jabs, and generally flailing about. This is where you can learn. Use straight punches to quickly knock out an opponent. The jab is one of the most useful things to know when you start boxing, Make sure to work on your jabs everyday. Your arm might be sore, but you will get more powerful.

Practice your footwork.

This doesn’t mean that you should be dancing around the ring like a scared boxer, this means that you should be comfortable moving in different directions while you keep your boxing stance.

Cross Train.

Boxing is all about getting your whole body in shape. When you don’t have time, or you have extra time, don’t forget to cross train. Do lots of ab exercises to ensure that your abs get strong. Running will also help you to get stronger and more fit.

Boxing is an extremely rigorous sport that will get you in shape and you will feel great doing it. Be patient work hard and in no time, you will be sparing with the best!

“What they do is a profession…they don’t believe in domestic violence.” Isaiah Salazar, part owner of Total Mayhem Promotions, stated about amateur and professional fighters, which is why the kickboxing match on April 7 is so important to him and to others.

The event, called “We’re Back II,” is helping to promote “Stop the Silence,” a local organization working to help victims of domestic violence and to raise awareness of the issue.

The organization is affiliated with One Hit MMA Fitness and Training Facility located in Layton, UT. Samantha Carter, co-founder of Stop the Silence, was inspired to begin the organization after her cousin, Ashlee, became a victim of domestic violence in July of last year. Ashlee, who was badly beaten and thrown out of a car going 65 MPH by her boyfriend, will be giving a speech at the fight.

“If people who are in the public eye can step forward and say they’re against this and say that it’s a problem then we can raise awareness,” Samantha stated in an interview. “People really just don’t know how bad it is.”

While Total Mayhem Promotions was in the beginning stages of planning the event, members of One Hit MMA approached them to ask if they would help Ashlee and Samantha’s cause. Total Mayhem jumped at the chance to give testimony that MMA is not about violence and the fighters in the ring are against any type of domestic violence and abuse.

“When you’re going in there, in the cage or the ring, it’s discipline against discipline. It’s not in rage, it’s not ’cause you’re mad. It’s not for any other reason—it’s discipline against discipline…that’s the kind of message we’re trying to put out there,” Salazar stated.

Salazar became deeply inspired after hearing Ashlee’s story, her miraculous survival and what Stop the Silence was working to do. He actually had to find a new opponent after hearing that one of the fighters,Dave Foley, injured his back and was no longer able to compete. Thankfully, Salazar found someone willing to step up and make sure that the fight would still happen.

The two fighters are now Patrick Reeves and Steve Sharp. Reeves, who measures in at 6’1″ and 155-pounds, has a four-inch advantage against Sharp, at 5’9″ and 160 pounds. However, Sharp’s record so far is 28-14 and Reeve’s record is 13-17.

The event will have prizes, giveaways, a full bar and multiple vendor booths including one for people wanting more information from Stop the Silence, and Ashlee will be making a speech about her story and the story of the organization. The fight will also be broadcasted live on GFL.tv at 7pm.

The official weigh-in for the fight is the Friday before, on April 6th at Brewskies located in Ogden, UT. Other local MMA fighters will make an appearance at this weigh-in.

Local boy Jordan Smith will get a chance to make a run at a $100,000 in the Bellator Season 6 Tournament.  He will be taking the place of Brian Foster who was officially named ineligible for his quarterfinal fight Friday March 30th.  According to The Mohegan Sun Commission Foster needs to have more testing in order for him to be medically cleared to fight again.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said. ” To pick up a rising star in Jordan Smith and place him into the fire of our $100,000 Welterweight Tournament is what makes great moments.” about the change in fight card.

Jordan Smith who is 16-2-1 is coming off recent victories over one-time UFC contender Karo Parisyan and Josh McDonald.
